September 17, 6:30pm EDT (via in-person & Zoom) – Dr. Caterina Y. Pierre

Our first speaker for the new season will be Dr. Caterina Y. Pierre, and it will be held on September 17th at 6:30pm. This event will be held in-person at the School of Visual Arts (136 West 21st St, 4th FL Room 418F) and on Zoom.

Ansel Eaton Adams (1902-84) was one of the most important American photographers working during the 20th century. He was a great environmentalist, and his work for the National Parks Service helped to draw attention to the preservation of natural sites in the United States. He headed the photography association known as Group f/64, made up of photographers who preferenced sharp focus; he developed new techniques in photography; and he was a key figure in the development of photography collections at museums, such as at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Join us for a discussion of the highlights of Adams’ career and his role in the acceptance of photography as a fine art medium.
